Schubert The Gander Reserve Shiraz 2017

This is the team’s prestige release, an elite Barossa Shiraz. From estate fruit, the wine spends around two and a half years in French oak barriques, with 50% of them new. The heft of the bottles alludes to the seriousness of the wine. Under cork, the colour is a deep maroon. Attractively fragrant, we have notes of plums, truffles, coffee beans, vanilla, chocolate, tar, axle grease, espresso and blackberries. With hints of plum pudding on the palate, this is rich, sumptuously flavoured, well-extracted and generous with cushiony tannins. A slippery texture with fine acidity, great length and good complexity already evident. Simply a stunning Barossa Shiraz. Well cellared, it will provide pleasure for fifteen to twenty years.
