Schwarz Wine Co. Rosé 2020

Oh how far we have come with Australian rosé. This coppery, salmon coloured dry Barossa Valley pink takes its cues from a Provençal direction, the palate helped along by partial barrel ferment (including some malolactic fermentation) with a blend of old vine grenache and mataro driving the palate.

It all means this is not just savoury, but subtly soft-edged, the acidity keeping things taught, yet with a palate that is driven by fruit that was actually ripe. A little cherry/strawberry fruit and citrus, although juicy it is not – its more savoury than that. Sound the trumpets; this is a winner of a dry Australian pink and so far from the Barossa rosé of old.
