Serraluna Costa Toscana Bianco 2024

Share

This Tuscan white is made from 100% Trebbiano. If the grape sounds unfamiliar to you, it is one of the most widely planted white varieties on the planet, though rarely excites, and you would almost certainly have encountered it somewhere, even if the name was not up in lights. It is also used in the production of Cognac, Armagnac and even balsamic vinegar. Widely used in Italy, this is surely one of the better examples and thoroughly enjoyable to drink. Definitely worth trying, not only as an excellent example of the variety but as an ideal wine for a range of cuisines, especially fresh seafood. Under an agglomerate cork. A yellow gold hue, this is an appealingly ripe style. If you had to use one word to describe it, peachy. There is good oak integration and spicy notes with an array of stone fruits as well. An absolute crowd pleaser with a soft and supple texture, and a sense of precision. The wine is of medium length it will provide a lot of joy for those drinking it over the next two to three years.

Ken was born and bred in Brisbane, Queensland. He had a non-trendy, perfectly happy childhood, in a family convinced alcohol meant instant condemnation to Hades. But a break fishing on the Great Barrier Reef, and some good wine, started a serious obsession that eventually took over. It did not stop Ken being chastised later for drinking Pol champagne, disgusted he’d drink anything made by a Cambodian dictator. Now, Ken mostly writes on wine, champagne and spirits for various newspapers, magazines and books, but is perhaps best known for his work in The Courier Mail. He also has a little sideline writing on cigars, fishing, travel and food. When not writing, fly-fishing for trout in NZ or bonefish on the flats of Cuba, travelling or smoking cigars, he is no doubt following a variety of sporting teams – the occasionally glorious Queensland Reds rugby, the dysfunctional Washington Redskins, the dodgy Arsenal and especially revels in the world restored to its proper axis with the return of the Ashes to their rightful home.
