As the name suggests, the grapes come from a single plot in the Walcliffe district, just south of the Margaret River township. If you love clone-chat, as I do, it’s 100% Gingin – a clone known for having berries of different sizes and ripeness levels within the bunch; with careful handling this results in a complex array of fruit flavours. The aromas open with grapefruit, white peach, fresh cut hay and river pebbles. The subtle, floral, vanilla crème anglaise fragrance is courtesy of fermentation and aging in French oak. The barrels used are 1-4 years old and contribute an understated hint of sweet spice, allowing the fruit to strut its stuff. In the mouth it’s silky and seamless. Tangy yuzu and a hint of gooseberry journeys into peach, honeydew and honeysuckle blossoms. The finish is captivating; both in length and transition of flavours. It’s flinty and spicy, with a hint of struck match and toasted brioche. This stunner is a one-off special bottling from a plot that was exceptional in 2024- don’t miss out.

Nicole loves wine. So much so that she gave up a successful career in Pharmacy, perfected her spitting technique, and moved from sunny Queensland to the wine-drenched laneways of Melbourne. Stints in hospitality, wineries, retail, sales and marketing filled the next few years while Nicole built her knowledge and searched for the right path. She completed the Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET) Diploma in 2016 and became a certified WSET Educator the following year. She now juggles a number of roles including teaching people about wine, curating wines lists for restaurants and bars, judging in Australian wine shows and, of course, writing. In 2016 she won the Negociants Working With Wine writing award and has since contributed to Gourmet Traveller WINE, Halliday Wine Companion Magazine and Nourish Magazine.
