100% Garnacha taken from 40-year-old vines rooted in granite soils at 600 metres in Méntrida. Cranberry skin, subtle kirsch, a waft of black pepper, strawberry compote, baked red plum and a fine ferrous mineral nuance. Very restrained and balanced aromas, with an inviting meld of fruit and savoury. The palate is light bodied with assertive tannins wrapping around bursts of red fruits and spice akin to the nose. Said tannins are Nebbiolo like in their brash and chalky intensity, pulling at the mouth and teeth with drying vigour before a hit of red plum-laced acidity catches up and washes things down. Lovely gentle length and carry from there on. Needs time for the tannins to integrate, but a very classy Garnacha.
