Weathercraft Beechworth Reserve Syrah 2021

Share

‘Handpicked from a meticulously managed one-acre plot, focusing on lower yields and regulated deficit irrigation. Trellising is chosen to optimise fruit quality. 30% whole bunch. Initial cold soak. Wild fermentation. 3 weeks on skins post-alcoholic fermentation. Aged in French oak (mix of barriques and puncheons), with 20% new oak for 18 months.’

The Syrah announces itself as soon as you open the bottle, its delightful aromas filling the room. The deep, impenetrable ruby colour gives you a hint as to the intensity of this wine. It’s such a gorgeous wine to smell, showing captivating notes of dark mulberry, tangy boysenberry, wild strawberry, raspberry, violets, vanilla, game, graphite, chocolate, and stewed fruits – the list was very long. As much as I liked the nose, the palate is pure hedonism, with dusty tannins complemented by bright, opulent flavours and a silky, slippery feeling in the mouth. If you love Aussie Syrah that’s more of a satin glove than a boxing glove, then this is a perfect choice and will enhance basically any meal you pair it with.
