You don’t normally get this level of wine-making involvement in a wine selling for this price. The key to its complexity is the 8% barrel fermentation in new oak. It certainly added a high degree of complexity, evident immediately on the nose, but then certainly through into the palate. It retains the fresh, zippy, racy fruits on the nose that are all about this variety, with a slightly grassy, citrus character and some riper peach-like notes. The palate has a deep penetrating intensity, with a zippy acidity driving the melony, lemon fruit characters through to the finish. It’s a wine that screams out for current drinking.
