Barratt Pinot Noir 2021

Share

A fresh and appealing Pinot from the same vineyard as their Chardy, the Uley Vineyard in the Piccadilly Valley, planted 38 years previously in this case. The grapes were destemmed into small open fermenters, with a small component, 13%, of whole bunches. It saw four days of cold maceration, prior to fermentation. Pressed off skins after nine days and then transferred to a mix of new (25%) and used French oak barriques, to mature for most of the following year. Unfiltered and unfined, it has a pale crimson hue. This is a subtle, gentle style of Pinot with notes of dry herbs, red fruits – cherries and raspberries – truffles and animal skins. Nicely balanced, it finishes with soft, though ever-so-slightly sandy tannins. Impressive length and well balanced throughout. A thoroughly enjoyable, elegant Pinot Noir which will drink well over the next four to eight years.
