Persephone was the goddess of Spring in Greek mythology, so she’s probably a good deity to have on your side if you’re a winemaker. Named in her honour, this wine is a blend of Nero d’Avola, Aglianico and Nero di Troia, the latter a rare grape to find in Australia but hailing from the Italian region of Puglia. There’s a beautiful mix of characters here, from bright red cherry and raspberry, to deep black cherry, as well as some spice, herbs and liquorice. The dusty tannins give some grip on the teeth, while the mouthfeel is juicy and turns darker after some air. It’s great with food but is also a nice drop to just sip by itself on the couch.
