Domaine Naturaliste Purus Chardonnay 2021

Karridale fruit, a blend of early ripening Dijon clones 76 and 95, provides a powerful, concentrated nose. Give this some time to open up and allow the white florals (jasmine) to reveal themselves alongside preserved lemon, a touch of gunflint minerality, nashi pear, white crunchy peach, and lime zest. It’s still a baby, so I’m looking forward to seeing this develop and the great quality oak settling down in time. The texture is like a symphony in my mouth – layers upon layers. This is a rosebud wine – it keeps revealing itself as the petals unfurl. Slinky fruit, slippery in the mouth but nestling into nooks and crannies of the mouth with a textural grip. Minerality is a keynote, along with some thirst-quenching ocean water salinity, reminiscent of sea salt dried on summer skin. A symphonic wine that keeps giving long after the final note has been played. A fine acid line provides great tension – no malo here. I’d suggest a decanter to open up this delightful bottle.
