Heartland Director’s Cut Shiraz 2019

Share

The Director’s Cut series shows just how good red wines from Langhorne Creek can be. This is a wonderful Shiraz and amazing value. The fruit here was harvested at night and crushed into small, open top, stainless steel fermenters. 24 hours skin contact for fermentation with the yeast being Heartland’s ‘Rhône isolate yeast’. Then ten days cool fermentation on skins with thrice daily pumpovers. The wine then goes into a mix of French and American oak hogsheads for 12 to 14 months. 40% of the oak
is new.

The colour is magenta/purple. Impressive aromas of black fruits, chocolate, plums, cigar box notes and spices. This is dense yet dancing. Good oak integration, there is concentration here, but excellent balance and focus. Good acidity and fine tannins. It surely has a decade ahead of it but is a joy now. Great stuff.
