Henschke Johann’s Garden 2017

Grenache blends, in their greatest form, are always a little bit rustic and wild. Sometimes it’s a bucking bronco full of flamboyant fruit while at other times it is more an angry bull in a muscular, dense and almost meaty style – the flavour is there, it just takes a little time to hit you.

This wine is a bruiser in the more brooding style with its deep cherry colour and immensely youthful fruit – dark cherry, baked earth, blackberry and spicy flavours with great impact. It is then dry, concentrated and slightly chewy with dense fruit supported by supple tannins and it finishes with exceptional length. A big, burly Grenache that is delicious now but could do with a couple of years to start showing its best.
