Koonowla Clare Valley Shiraz Mataro 2020

Share

A single vineyard blend of two of the Clare Valley’s strengths, Shiraz and Mataro – aka Mourvèdre. They bring an inherent fruit sweetness and ripeness to the glass which is very Clare in addition to delicious drinking. A good, sound, lightly savoury red wine with length, it’s hard to ask for more when served up with a roast leg of lamb with the trimmings, or vegetarian-friendly melanzane di parmigiana alla Siciliana. Blackcurrant, bramble, plum aniseed, cinnamon and earth – it’s chock full of flavour. Medium bodied, it works its 14.7% alcohol richness well with some tanned leather, toasted oak notes providing a supportive role and nothing more. Even-handed tannins provide accessible drinking now.
