LVDO Shiraz Rosé McLaren Vale 2023

Share

From a dry-grown, certified organic vineyard in Sellicks Hill planted in 1990. Whole bunch pressed, wild-fermented and aged in various formats of old barrels (15+ year old puncheon and barrique) for 11 months. 10% of the wine is made up of a perpetual reserve that was aged under flor. A really interesting and characterful release. Vibrant cloudy pink/orange colour makes for an intriguing start. Smoke bush, radish, blood orange and pomegranate lead the way aromatically, with pops of toffee apple in support. Increased temperature unlocks lashings of pepper spice, pear, red cherry and red apple skin. Good weight and texture to the palate, which is both slippery and granular. White pepper, blood orange, red cherry, cranberry, radish again, all wrapped up in a gentle vein of savoury tannins and cool acid. The melding of savoury, vegetal and fruit notes is both delicious and captivating. This is vinous and textural; a rosé to savour rather than swig.
