When Simon at McIvor asked if I wanted to try a 2015 Nebbiolo, there was really only one answer. Even with 11 years in bottle, there’s still a tonne of primary fruit and characters on offer: rose, red cherry, alpine herbs, tomato leaf, plus some tertiary leather and smoke. It needs a lot of air to show its best but it comes alive after about two or three hours, showing incredible brightness on the palate. The tannins are chalky and still integrating but it’s the kind of wine you don’t want to rush with so it’ll safely cellar for another 5-8 years or maybe more.
