Mitchell Wines McNicol Clare Valley Riesling 2012

At the top of its game and looking good. Nine years old and the citrus blossom that was so evident in its youth has morphed/amplified into honeysuckle and wisteria on the bouquet. Aged characters are also enjoying their moment with aromas of buttered toast, apricot kernel and citrus.

Texture and persistence are the key messages here. The latter is the result of a fine web of acidity that resided in the wine in its youth. It’s holding on well and continues to drive the wine. Flavour combines all the things we love about aged riesling, the bread and butter pudding richness, a slight sweetness of citrus, pithy grapefruit and spiced apple.

Bring out the bratwurst and sauerkraut!
