We all have our old favourite wines – wines that we can go back to again and again as they almost always deliver. Parker First Growth is one of those wines. It’s not the most delicate wine to come out of Coonawarra but always has the power and integrity to drink well for a decade or two, supported by plenty of oak. It’s a wine that suits grand occasions with 2016 perhaps a bigger and more ready to enjoy young style, although still has the power to sing for many years to come.

it is a glorious Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon that busts with violet, cassis and baked earth aromas with new oak, as always, in brilliant support. It is then powerful and broad with generous fruit sweetness that drives a long finish supported by fine but significant tannins. It’s also just starting to show bottle age with cedar notes and those tannins well integrated. Drink it now to enjoy a classic South Australian red or let it age to enjoy at its complex best over the next decade or two.
