From Australian legend Bert Salomon’s southern hemisphere venture, a beautifully set vineyard beside the Finniss River on South Australia’s southern coastline, the mouth of the Murray River and the Great Southern Ocean in the distance. This red blend of Mourvedre (63%) and Touriga (32%) with a 5% dash of Viognier could not be more new-world adventurous compared to the classic Rieslings and Gruner Veltliners if his home ground Wachau Valley near Vienna. This wine is in an exciting contemporary groove of minimal pre-bottling sulphur, with long maturation on skins and 12 months in older oak barrels to nurture just the natural grape tannins as vital protectors of its glorious set of aromatics and earth-dusted elements surrounding a swirl of crimson to darker berry flavours. The wine is imbued with a natural energy and enthusiasm as you sip it, life affirming, smart and genuinely moreish.
