The producer is known for its larger-than-life style of Shiraz. The Gander is the pinnacle of such a style, the flagship, distinctive and bold. Cassis, blackberry, plum aromas and flavours are abundant so, too, black liquorice, clove, nutmeg, allspice, chocolate and fruitcake. Oak is a feature, hazelnutty, toasty and generous. Its presence is definitely noted, a precursor perhaps to the life expectancy planned for the wine. After all, it is a seven-year-old and still a relative youngster in personality. The palate is smoothly layered in waves of supple tannins, building as they work their way through the wine. Love the spice here lending a lifted aromatic quality that lasts and lasts.
