This is the kind of wine that delivers all the spectrum of Shiraz flavours, from blackberries baking in a pie to blue skinned plums and mulberries. There is old school baking spices from nutmeg to clove with rich vanilla and coffee caramel notes too. Some prune and dried fig, but also the rosemary twig and caper berry savoury notes you may find in cooler grown sites. This feels hearty in its 4 year bottle journey and has a long way yet to go, I would think around 2028 it will really hit its straps. Perfect for slow braised meat like short ribs.
Shanteh cut her teeth at Sydney’s Award-Winning Quay restaurant where she worked for over a decade and was Head Sommelier from 2018 till 2022. She has been nominated for the Good Food Guide Sommelier of the Year award on three occasions and claims that her experience as a Len Evans scholar as one of the highlights of her career. Shanteh hosts her own weekly podcast ‘Over A Glass’ with the Deep in the Weeds Network and spends her time writing for various publications and judging at numerous wine shows across the country.
