Coal, blackberry and black cherry to start. Nutmeg, earthy root vegetables, game meat, cut leather, cacao nib and smoke to follow along with some lovely graphite minerality bringing lift and class. Nice complexity and savoury/fruit mix aromatically. The palate is full bodied but lifted, with notes akin to the nose gliding through the mouth led by blackberry and black cherry again with coal, mocha and cacao nib notes in support. Bitter mocha-drenched tannins frame to a long finish. While this is dark fruited, there’s no descension into weightiness. There’s lift and balance, glide and motion. A lovely example of boldness and concentration kept elevated and poised. Nicely done.
