Storm King Wine Co. Tempranillo 2022

Ray and Jen Costanzo master Tempranillo in Queensland’s Granite Belt. This wine is bright and perfumed, with violet, mulberry, and crushed pepper notes for quite an expressive opening. On the palate, it is full flavoured with even, powdery tannins and a long shape. Juicy dark cherry acidity gives this wine a mouth-watering finish, whilst the pillowy texture on the mid palate is what excites the most, showing broad shoulders and pronounced fruit intensity. I match it with a Sri Lankan Cashew Coconut Curry, a playful dish where there is freshness, tenderness, and an uplifting aromatic spice. The interactions between the food and the wine are elevated by the raita on the side, which with the mint, cucumber and crushed nuts give an extra element of airiness to the experience. This producer shows a deft touch once again, launching a young wine that can be enjoyed immediately, with or without food. A composed, giving, and persistent cool climate Tempranillo expression.
