Taltarni Discovery Grenache Touriga 2022

Share

On paper, this is an exciting duo: sweet Grenache meets the boldly tannic Touriga. In the glass, they hit it off. Dark fruits, blueberries, plum and earth with briar and jalapeño. The scene is set for a dark-hearted, savoury, intense wine. The two grapes work well together. Grenache brings the dusty, earthy red fruits, while Touriga Nacional brings the blue fruits, blackcurrant, spice and firm tannin structure. It combines both strength and an almost floral delicacy in the glass, quite the chameleon, wrapped in a deliciously smoky, blackstrap licorice spiciness. And it’s savoury and dry to close. It’s good to see more winemakers embracing Touriga outside its usual role as a prime mover in fortifieds. It’s an incredibly versatile grape as shown here. More please.
