Taschini Pinot Gris Graciano Sangiovese 2020

The world of wine is in a great place right now with more innovation around than ever before. Gone are the old strict rules of blending grapes and sticking to the tried and true formulas with winemakers now making all kinds of weird and wacky blends, like this one. Pinot Gris, graciano and sangiovese – France, Spain and Italy with fruit from the Limestone Coast in South Australia all blended together, and it works.

Mid cherry in colour and a touch hazy but that’s part of the style. It is a riot of red and tropical fruit salad aromas – apricot, strawberry, cherry, earth, with some dried herbs thrown in too. It is then dry and juicy in the mouth with red fruits and white pepper plus a gentle bubbly edge. It’s loads of fun but also has plenty of concentration and length so delivers in every way. A great example of cutting edge Australian wines and also super flexible – delicious chilled on its own but also has the grunt to match up well with cold meat cuts or a vegetable tart.
