Yering Station Shiraz Viognier 2020

Share

The introduction of Viognier here is just right, a mere 3% and the aromatics sing. Orange blossom and violet scents mix with the Shiraz contribution of black plum and dark cherry on the bouquet, and it’s so enticing. In keeping with its Yarra Valley cool climate origins, this blend is medium bodied with red fruits aplenty on the palate, and super generous in brown and Middle Eastern spice appeal. A gentle vein of pepper running throughout brings a touch of added depth and interest. Fifteen months in French oak (25% new) is soaked up with ease. Firm but complementary tannins complete the picture. All up, a wine of lovely balance all round. It’s ready to open now, but can easily take longer in the bottle.
