Little Giant Adelaide Hills Pinot Gris 2024

Apparently the bottles are in some way meant to represent, or possibly sympathise with, the southern hairy nosed wombat, which is, we are told, the state emblem of South Australia. Who knew? Well, presumably many South Australians. This in turn somehow translates to the stocky and rather cute bottles in which the wine lives (not sure there is much resemblance to a wombat den, but I digress). From Adelaide Hills fruit, the wine spent seven months on yeast lees in stainless steel. Whether or not the bottle appeals (it does to me), the wine certainly will. The colour is a very pale lemon hue. Aromas of pears, citrus (especially lemons), stone fruits, herbs, sitting on a minerally backing. This is refined, pristine and rather elegant for a Pinot Gris. Fine acidity and decent length here, with the flavours persisting. With quite a seductive texture, this is delicious drinking for enjoying now and for the next three to four years.
