If you had to pick one region in Australia that is well suited to Gruner Veltliner then the Adelaide Hills would have to be it. Gruner generally likes a slightly warmer climate that Riesling to help it build a fuller body and richer texture than its more fancied rival. Thanks to the high quality 2021 vintage Longview have pulled out a ripper that is fine and detailed, yet still with that savoury Gruner edge.
Pale in colour, it boasts aromatic precision showing piquant melon and citrus aromas lifted by savoury spices which add a nice contrast. It goes on to a dry and crisp palate with some textural creaminess and a touch of phenolic grip for backbone before an open knit and bright finish. It’s deceptively powerful so could easily stand up to a chicken fajitas.
