Munda Djab Wurrung Country Syrah 2023

Low nutrient sandstone soils.  50% of the blend consists of 25% whole bunch portion.  Matured in French Oak 90% in an older large vat and 10% in new barriques for 10 months.  Some juicy purple and black-fruited spice on the nose, and bare woodsy notes are swiftly followed by a punchy whole bunch, sweet juby fruit and aniseed black cat lollies on the palate.  A lick of tar, a nestle of spice, and a fair amount of oak can be found wafting about the back of the house. Tannins are gravelly and a little on the rustic side, but acid is crunchy and the complete package has a red-dirt, well-loved Blundstones, country-style charm to it.  While the fruit intensity starts with a bang and the structure has a firm grip, it’s a seductive party starter but won’t stay to see the dawn break.
