Platinetti Guido Colline Novaresi Nebbiolo 2021

From 45 year old vines on glacial soil in Ghemme, Alto Piemonte. Only large barrels used in the winery. Andrea Fontana, the winemaker, is also the President of the Alto Piemonte Consortium (Consorzio Tutela Nebbioli Alto Piemonte). A concentrated nose with balsamic notes of pine needles, Alpine herbs, orange peel oil and amaro tang, juniper berries plus bright wild red berries. For a person that likes tannins in her reds, this is music to my ears, the firm tannins with a lovely bitterness. That is what I want to see in my Nebbiolo. Wouldn’t you? A concentrated, yet elegant mid palate and that balsamic, amaro-like presence that persists, and persists and persists.
