Riddoch Coonawarra The Federator Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

Coming from three vineyards across Coonawarra, this is a dense and hefty wine that needs a lot of air and even a decant or two before its rough edges start to soften. Opening with rich mulberry, cassis and cinnamon, there’s a touch of cedar and loads of smoke and dark chocolate, with dusty and quite prominent tannins that require food to tame them, preferably something rich–an ideal wine for something like an eye fillet. I liked it but didn’t love it, yet that may change after some more cellar time, to bring the tannins under control.
