The Hare and the Tortoise Pinot Gris 2020

Share

The King Valley with its Alpine influences can turn out a whole range of delicious wines – from Italian reds such as nebbiolo and sangiovese through to aromatic white wines like pinot gris.

This wine was a huge surprise packet. While the label suggests it will be a fun little wine it is something else entirely, and actually quite a serious gris. It starts with bright and punchy aromatic fruits – pear and red apple plus some savoury pithy elements thrown in too. In the mouth there is a good mix of tangy acidity and creamy textured fruit that give great impact with musky, floral fruits and just a hint of balancing sweetness which all ends with a surprisingly long finish. It’s a wine not only with great upfront drinkability but also good food matching potential for spicy Asian dishes.
