A co-ferment of Shiraz and Marsanne (up to 6%) with the latter playing a role that Viognier does in more traditionally minded blends. It offers an irresistible introduction with aromas rich and intense in black cherry, bramble, dark plum, sage, bay leaf, earth and woodsy undergrowth. It’s a wine of the soil, rustic in its earthy, sweet fruited notes and touch of savouriness. It works incredibly well, full bodied and textural, with oak a feature across the middle palate in league with a deep well of wild dark fruits and crushed herbs. Certainly on the riper side of the ledger at 14.5% but, being a great year, it carries it off with class.
