Yarraloch Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2021

Share

This saw 100% barrel fermentation before maturation in barrel for 10 months on full lees. Medium gold colour. Shy butterscotch aromas lift from the glass first off, followed by delicate cheesecloth, butter on toast, and honeysuckle. A swirl of the glass amps up notes of the same, but with the addition of cinnamon apple, shortcrust pastry, ripe Meyer lemon and grilled nectarine. It’s all quite low-toned aromatically. The palate is fulsome and textural, with nectarine, butter, Meyer lemon, hay and ripe kumquat coating the mouth before some welcome chalky phenolics wrap it all up. There’s nice latent surges of acidity pushing through, too, helping to elongate and freshen the finish. There’s charm here, it’s rich and textural but nicely controlled thanks to architectural structure. It’s a drink now scenario, ideally with roast chicken.
