1847 Wines Grand Pappy’s Shiraz 2020

Share

Sourced from largely unirrigated vines around 35- 75 yrs in Rowland Flat. Open fermented for 14 days with a good portion of juice discarded to promote concentration of flavour. This is extremely low yields and given plenty of love in the winery with maturation in mostly new French oak for 12-14 months. Crafted by Sam Kurtz who has been making these wines for 35 years. A wine that feels opulent but with some solid foundation in structure. This is all about its luxurious palate weight and beautifully ripe fruit, built on a core of sandy tannins and luscious acidity. There is everything you’ll be expecting of fresh blackberries, cassis and boysenberry with a spice box of clove, cola and Tahitian vanilla bean. Alcohol has mellowed and there are pockets of a blue hue in lilac and blueberry too. These are wines that really do reward with time, artfully displacing their details and character to those that patiently wait. Serve with a scotch fillet that cuts like butter.
