Knappstein Clare Valley Malbec 2022

Wines made from a single varietal, Malbec, are somewhat, shall we say, variable in quality. So it is always a joy to discover a seriously good one. It is a variety which receives very little attention here and certainly deserves better. An intense purple hue, with aromas of plums, chocolate, spices, hints of gum leaves, blackcurrants and a flick of well-handled oak. Well structured, this is a powerful style with a supple texture and good intensity, a wine of coiled power, juicy acidity and good focus. An eight to ten year proposition and one which deserves your best steak. A fine example of Malbec.
